Welcome!

What is The Stat Cat? It is a project dedicated to applying simple models to everyday problems in the hopes of making them more understandable, and sometimes attempting to bridge the gap between art and science.

But what does that mean? Well considering the following questions:

  • What should my expectations be at a casino when I play roulette?
  • Which Arianna Grande Album is most danceable?
  • How different are Jack White and his side projects?
  • What does equality in the workplace mean and how will it shift overtime?
  • Should I play the lottery?
  • How has the portrayal of woman in the music industry changed since the 90s?
  • Why should I hate the NPS metric?
  • Can I win at blackjack?
  • Which of The Smiths albums is the saddest?
  • In the music industry systematically transphobic?

Some of that might be slightly ambitious... And it may be difficult to prove systematic institutional bias. But some of those questions are a lot easier!

Some of it may seem unfocused and all over the place, but consider:

  • My fundamental math/logical/modeling approach will remain consistent.
  • Bringing diverse ideas together may bring diverse people together. If someone comes looking for fun music facts and learns a little about workplace equality, or comes for gambling tips and ends up identifying his/her/their own biases - that's a win for all.

I don't claim to be perfect and will frankly not be able to articulate all my thoughts clearly, much less all the opinions that deserve a voice. Also, I still have to google loss, lose and loose every time I use them and I'm only 80% sure I understand the difference between its and it's. So bear with me (bare? barre? beret?) and I will try my best. I'm sorry if I'm up and down a lot, sorry that I think I'm not enough and sorry if I say sorry way too much. I also apologize for painfully forcing song lyrics to fit where they don't belong.

Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay!
